2018 CSA shares now available !
What is a CSA?
CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture and it is a way for farmers to access capital by having a shareholder invest in the farm and local community, while sharing together in the risk and bounty of the farm venture. CSAs hearken back to an earlier time when people knew where their food came from, ate food in season and enjoyed a delicious, healthy diet of fresh and local foods. Shareholders don't just buy food from a farm; rather, they become members of their farm. CSAs allow their members to become involved in the ecological and human community that supports the farm.
This mutually beneficial partnership helps ensure a more secure market for small farms like ours, struggling to compete with larger, less sustainable farms, as well as ensures you have consistent access to local, healthy food which tastes great!
What Will I Get In My Share?
The Deep Root Gardens share will be approximately half a bushel of produce each week, which equates to between 5-10 pounds of vegetables, depending on the harvest and the time of year. This share will feed a typical family of four.
We will be growing over 30 different varieties of vegetables including carrots, garlic, tomatoes, cucumbers and spinach, just to name a few. We're excited to add several varieties of squash, cauliflower, napa cabbage and tomatoes to our shares this season. Why Choose Deep Root Gardens?
At Deep Root Gardens, our focus is on quality! No wrinkly old supermarket veggies here ~ just fresh vegetables produced with no pesticides, no herbicides and lots of love! Though we are not certified organic because of the size of our farm and the high cost of certification, we do follow organic principles and some might say we are “beyond organic”. if you are concerned with eating local, we are as local as it gets - only 15 miles south of Sioux Falls.
We will be sharing recipes throughout the season and hosting events for our members on the farm.
